August 2007 Pam Coffman and Cheryl Evans met at a SCAC (Seminole Cultural Arts Council) fund raising meeting.  We immediately recognized that we shared like interests in advancing the communication between the SCAC and the artists of Seminole County who are not currently part of Non-Profit Organizations.  We realized that the largest group of artists are those who work independently without non-profit status and therefore have no voice in the governmental process that is so vital to the success of a thriving cultural community.

Researching other Florida communities with similar situations we found an organization of artists in Palm Beach County that faced related issues.  In our opinion the methods used by the Artists of Palm Beach County to listen to and unite independent artists was unique and all inclusive.  With this as a model we began Like Minded Artists.

Our hopes are that this organization will be the vehicle that promotes communication between the individual artists, their communities, counties and state. Our goal is to promote cultural growth that provides independent artists with a range of resources and services that includes income producing exhibition space, health insurance, studio insurance, access to low-cost housing and studio space, career and legal advice, advocacy on arts issues, and more-in addition to a welcoming community of fellow artists.
