A Meeting of Like Minds Date: 03/09/08 6:00-7:00: A gathering of two creative groups, The Artist's Way group and the Like Minded Artists group. The two groups came together to enjoy a wonderful pot luck dinner. There was an abundance of offerings from lasagna to fried chicken…something for everyone. There were almost 20 creatives in attendance. 7:00-8:00: With our bellies full and our minds open, we listened as Pam Coffman and Cheryl Jones Evans, co-founders of Like Minded Artists, gave a brief history of the group and their mission, along with some ideas on how to grow an arts community. We were presented with a couple of structural models, The Torpedo Factory in Washington, D.C. and Fort Mason in San Francisco. Both fantastic examples of what like minded artists can accomplish working together. After introductions, attendees were encouraged to log on to the Like Minded Artists website, www.likemindedartists.com, and fill out the brief survey gathering information on artists' wants and needs in our community. The group was also asked to get the ball rolling by submitting images of artwork, website info, and any upcoming creative events and happenings to Cheryl to be posted on the Like Minded Artists site. 8:00-9:00: The group retreated to the gallery for informal discussion and presentation of member artwork. What a delightfully diverse group of creatives we have in our midst! We all enjoyed meeting "Grandpa" an amazing life-like terra cotta sculpture figure by Susan Carter. We were also treated to an impromptu performance of "Look Up" by the fabulous Miss Jacqueline Jones. Her energy really charged up the group to the possibility of what we can accomplish together. Next meeting of Like Minded Artists is set for Sun. April 20th, 1:30-4:30 at the Casselberry Library, Central Branch on Oxford Road. (BYOB-"Bring your own Brunch") Please NOTE: No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the library! Next meeting of the Artist's Way group, Second Sun. at 7:00, April 13th. See ya'll there! |
